Malawi’s first female president, Joyce Banda, says that African women should not follow the “Western route" of assertiveness and confrontation as a way to gain a voice in politics.
“If you want to take the Western route, all you will get is rejection, frustration. Confrontation will never work," said Banda, Africa’s second female head of state, while speaking at the Sheroes Forum for female African leaders in business and politics in Dubai today (May 9).
The former president described a women’s leadership training session in New York where she was given tips on being assertive, like standing up straight and looking people in the eye.
“If I had done that, for example while talking to a traditional ruler in Africa, I would have been rejected immediately," Banda said.
Banda, president of Malawi between 2012 and 2014, is head of an initiative to encourage African women to run for office and has spent the last two decades lobbying for more female representation in African governments.
Banda argued that money, rather than lectures and training seminars would better serve the cause of female empowerment in political systems on the continent. “When you don’t have the money, you can’t stand for elective power, not in Africa."
Compared to their counterparts elsewhere in the world, African women aren’t doing so poorly in political representation. Globally, women accounted for only 17.7% of the world’s government ministers in 2015. In Africa, that figure was 20%, according to Inter-Parliamentary Union, a nonprofit based in New York.
According to another measure by the United Nations, a little over a fifth of parliamentary seats in Africa are held by women. That’s more than the 19% of congressional seats held by women in the United States and about the same as the percentage of parliamentary seats held by women in the United Kingdom. And of the 20 countries with the highest percentage of parliamentary seats held by women, six are African.

karan bhalla, Karan Bhalla PMO, Karan Bhalla Encompass, karan bhalla arrest, karan bhalla fraud, karan bhalla cheating, karan bhalla CBI Work can be frustrating and stressful sometimes.
Yet, no matter how tough your job is, you'll need a healthy mind and body to tackle it. If you are eating poorly, not exercising, or internalizing stress, you won't feel well. And if you don't feel well, you can't treat your career with the attention and respect it deserves. Without energy, you cannot make your career as fulfilling as it could be.
As a career coach, I speak to hundreds of people each year who are unhappy with their careers. When I ask them what they eat, how physically active they are, and how they handle stress, their answers do not surprise me. One by one, they tell me that they are not taking care of themselves.
How can you love what you do when you don't feel you best? How can you build momentum in your career when you are tired? How can you fulfill your dreams when you don't have the energy to make it happen?
You Can Change How You Feel At Work. Here Are Some Things You Can Do To Make This Happen:
Let Go of Anger
Anger is a normal emotion. But, when you cling to a painful emotion such as anger, you cannot feel energized. When you free yourself of angry thoughts, by forgiving yourself and others, you will free up a lot of mental space which can be filled with newfound energy.
Solution: Decide to let your anger go, so you feel better and more productive.
Let Go of Blame
We are a society of blamers. We all do it. Even though we criticize others for not taking responsibility, when it's our turn to be responsible, we tend to look outward to assign blame if something goes wrong. Blame feels good, because we don't like to admit being wrong. The downside to blame is that it allows you to stay stuck when you could actively be trying to improve the situation.
Solution: Decide against assigning blame. Blame will drag down your energy level. If something at work is not going well, accept what is happening and try to learn from it. This way, you can make progress and move past it.
Change Your Beliefs
Your beliefs are powerful. They set the tone and direction for your career. If you say that you want one thing, but actually believe another, the resulting conflict will hold you back. Belief is critical to victory. If you do not believe that you can have a high level of energy in your career, then you are unlikely to achieve it.
Solution: Decide to let go of the beliefs that no longer serve you. Instead, focus on believing that you can transform yourself into a healthy, lively person.
Change Your Attitude
Your career can be compared to a journey. As with any journey, there will be highs and lows along the way, in this case, spread out over many years. When good things are happening in your career, it will be easier to feel energized. But when more challenging things are occurring, it will naturally be more difficult to manage your energy efficiently.
Solution: Decide that your attitude will not keep you from being in the best possible mental and physical health you can be.
Make Better Choices
Your career is filled with choices. Some of them will empower you, and others will hold you back.
Of course, no-one intentionally makes bad choices. Every time you ate something that did not nourish your body, or skipped a workout, you probably made what you thought was the best choice at the time. You weighed your options and believed that you were doing the right thing. When you learn to question choices that are bad for you, you can also learn to make better choices in the future.
Solution: Decide to make better choices. This is a vital step towards creating a healthy, energetic new you.
Change Your Job
Does your job increase your energy or drain it from you?
Many people stay in their jobs longer than they want to, because they are unsure of what to do next. They tell themselves that the answer will come someday. Whenever that day comes, they will make their move. But in the meantime, they are stagnant and unhappy.
Solution: Decide to change your job if you are unhappy in the one you have now and you have given it your best shot.for more info, check out avant career

karan bhalla, Karan Bhalla PMO, Karan Bhalla Encompass, karan bhalla arrest, karan bhalla fraud, karan bhalla cheating, karan bhalla CBI Godrej Nature’s Basket expands its e-commerce operations to 125 cities
Godrej Nature's Basket, the food and grocery retailer, has widened its e-commerce operations across the country while expecting to double online sales in the next three months.
Following the move, the omni-channel retailer will be able to deliver its offerings of over 10,000 products to around 3,000 plus pincodes spread over 125 cities including metros, tier I and some tier II towns across 24 states in the country. Further, it is planning to deliver to around 200 cities by the end of current fiscal.
It will help customers across the country to choose from a wide range of exclusive and hard-to-find non-perishable products to be delivered at their doorstep.
"With our experiential retail stores, our extensive products, and our top-of-the-line services, we have been the pioneers in the gourmet space. Through our pan-India operations, we are expecting about 10X growth in the online revenues over the year owing to our renewed thrust in e-commerce. This will not just enable food lovers across the country to access quality and hard-to-find foods and ingredients at the mere click of a button but will also significantly boost our e-commerce presence and revenues", said Mohit Khattar, MD, Godrej Nature's Basket.
With this expansion of operations customers can be benefitted with faster deliveries while they can access new service features like real-time tracking of order, one-click ordering of range of recipes, easy ordering through list-based ordering and its extensive product range. They can make the payments through card or cash on delivery, net banking, mobile banking, various mobile wallets, Sodexo vouchers or even with loyalty points.
For deliveries to these 125 cities, the company is leveraging on its offline presence of 33 stores in five cities across the country. Hence, it is also planning to launch seven more offline stores in metros and tier I cities by the end of current fiscal. The pricing will be the same offline and online.
"At Godrej Nature's Basket, we have always believed in being at the forefront of innovation and excellence - whether in terms of product quality and range or customer service and experience. We are consistently innovating, adopting and re-evaluating new platforms in the field of technology that would make life of our customers simpler and their experiences brighter and better. Today, we have a world-class omni-channel platform for our customers developed through the use of foremost technologies. With the launch of our pan-India operations, we will be the first food retailer to go national and cater to gourmet needs from across the country. This move will give a fillip to our business and accelerate the growth of the online gourmet space", acknowledged Tanya Dubash, Executive Director and Chief Brand Officer, Godrej Group.
Presently, the company's e-commerce platform which offers deliveries to 405 pincodes in five cities contributes to around five per cent of its total sales - out of which the mobile app contributes 1/3rd sale. About half of its online orders are based on cash on delivery. It had relaunched its website and a mobile app on Android and IOS platform in April this year using in-house technology.
The $500 billion Indian grocery market is growing by 7 per cent online YOY. Similarly, the food market growing by 13 per cent online annually is expected to grow by 18 to 20 per cent by 2020.
